I first met him in 1981 in Girona, where I assume he lived. He came into the hotel walking very suavely indeed, swift handshake. Extremely friendly. I previously knew who he was. How he looked like, I mean. But nothing would have led me to believe he was such a quick driver. He drove his little beetle from bar to bar throughout the whole evening. He lies frequently, at least I assume he does, even though it’s not the moment to tell a lie. But how could you not tell a lie?
Lo conocí en Girona, 1981, donde asumo que vivía. Entró al hotel caminando muy hábilmente, la verdad. Estrechaba la mano con velocidad. Muy amistoso. Sabía quién era previamente. Como lucía, al menos. Pero nada me hubiese hecho pensar que iba a ser un conductor tan veloz. Condujo su escarabajo de bar en bar toda la noche. Miente con frecuencia, o al menos eso asumo, aunque no es el momento para mentir. Pero como no mentir?
